age of 40
- Do self breast exams regularly
- Take any signs seriously
- Be proactive
- Love yourself!
Cancer is not a word I take lightly. In
fact, even to write this article I had to dig deep inside myself to
have the strength. Cancer has devastated and turned my world
upside down. I feel like I have been living in a nightmare for
the past few years and just can’t wake up. After a long, hard,
and painful battle, I recently lost my dear father to metastasized
prostrate cancer. This experience was traumatic. My
father was one of the most important people in my life. He was
deeply loved and is intensely missed.
Not even a month after I lost my father,
my (maternal) aunt told me she was diagnosed with breast cancer. My
already broken heart sank. I thought it can’t be true! My
poor mother, just lost the love of her life to cancer, and now she
has to hear that her only sister has breast cancer. I felt like I
was watching a bad daytime soap opera and really needed to change
the channel.
My aunt and I have always been extremely
close and she holds a very special place in my heart. She is not
only my aunt, but a best friend. All I could do was try my best
to be supportive, stay positive, and strong.
Despite
the hell (to say the least) my aunt continues to go through, she has
managed to keep a positive attitude. She is a fighter and an
inspiration to us all.

thoughts, concerns and how important it is to get checked regularly
and be proactive.
Cancer
is not a battle that one fights alone
it is a down right war that a whole family takes part in.
Watching a love one undergo such horrible and painful times is truly
unbearable. Cancer brings on a great sense of helplessness,
sadness, heartache and fear. Cancer not only devastates the
person battling the illness but truly devastates all involved and
changes lives forever.
I have decided to take a deep breath, swallow
hard and share my experience, knowledge and thoughts with others in
hopes to shed a bright light on this serious subject, let people
know they are not alone and bring cancer awareness to all.
